GWIPL and Groundswell have been busy this year organizing community green power purchases for residents and organizations alike. Here’s some information on what they’re doing for organizations and how you can get yours signed up.
“We are on our way to debunking a powerful myth that clean energy comes with higher energy costs. It’s an idea that prevents many families from insisting on clean power.”
– Jacqui Patterson, director of NAACP’s Environmental and Climate Justice program, “NAACP Takes Up the Clean-Energy Fight”
The Community Power Program is debunking that myth.
If your non-profit or mission-based organization pays its electric bill in DC or in Maryland, this is a way for your organization to spend less money on electricity and financially support 100% clean energy.
With the Community Power Program, organizations can come together and combine their purchasing power. Then, Groundswell, another local non-profit, advocates on your behalf to negotiate with electricity suppliers for the best clean energy contracts with the lowest rates.
Already, over 160 mission-based organizations, including NAACP, have saved more than $700,000 and are diverting their energy dollars to hopeful wind energy projects.
